I have been training for Running with the Devil, my next marathon. It’s June 23 at Lake Mead, a national recreation area east of Las Vegas, on the Nevada–Arizona border.
The course is a beautiful, torturous thing: 2,839 feet of ascent over 26.2 miles of sun and wind and searing heat. Oh man, does it hurt. I ran this one last year and it was 103 degrees when I hit the finish line.
I’ve been running on the actual course for the last couple of weeks. My lovely wife took these pictures during my twenty-mile training run last Saturday.
God, I love this stuff.
