The guys in the New Rhythm Quartet (NRQ) just finished this little promotional video. We recorded the songs last weekend, and this week was dedicated to mixing them and getting the photos together.

I had a recording session in Las Vegas Saturday with the guys in the New Rhythm Quartet (NRQ). You met them last month: guitarist Guy Amato, keyboardist Mike Hepner, and bassist Tod Andrews. These fellas make it look easy.
I had a session Thursday with my pal Sonny Lamson. Yes, we spent Valentine’s Day together. We worked at his place, putting down tracks for the vocalist Pascale Elia.
I set up in the live room—the living room—and we ran the snake down the hall to Sonny’s control room. Then he opened a Skype session so we could see one another. There’s nothing like making a complicated process significantly more complicated.
But it’s all about results, and that was a good session.
I had a gig with the New Rhythm Quartet (NRQ) last night at Gordon Biersch in Las Vegas. We played the Boca Park restaurant, on the patio out front.
NRQ is a fusion group, and this was my first gig with them. I hope there will be more to come because I have a good time with these guys. The lineup includes guitarist Guy Amato, keyboardist Mike Hepner, and bassist Tod Andrews. Last night vocalist Diane Kallay joined us for a couple of songs. She was great.
Sidenote: I’m thankful every day to live in a place where I can play outside in short sleeves in January. What a pleasure.

After two intense years of reading and research, writing, rewriting, and writing some more, I have completed grad school. On Sunday I graduated from Antioch University Los Angeles with an MFA (master of fine arts) in creative writing.
This is a goal I set for myself years ago, when I first learned of the MFA. I’ve been writing all along, but now I’m obligated to be good. This is serious business.
Here are a few pictures from my graduate reading Friday.
