Tracking the Timpani

My pal Rob from Ever Since My Breakdown asked me to do a few percussion overdubs for his current project. On Friday we met up in Las Vegas, in the studio at the College of Southern Nevada. That was a fun session. It’s not every day I’m called on to track timpani and a 36” concert bass drum, but then this isn’t your everyday rock record.

Strictly Commercial: Hayes Chiropractic

Here’s a new commercial I recorded for KTOX. This one is for Hayes Chiropractic in Bullhead City, Arizona.

I guess the music budget ran out.

Asian Martial Arts: Constructive Thoughts & Practical Applications

After over twenty years in business, the Journal of Asian Martial Arts has ceased
publication. I served as copy editor from December 2009 until the final issue.
It was both a challenge and an education. In work as at home, it’s all about
the people you surround yourself with, and working with Editor in Chief Mike
DeMarco was always a pleasure. He is a scholar, a warrior, and, best of all, a
gentleman. I’m thankful for our friendship.

I’m sorry the journal is finished, but it should allow us time to work on more book projects. Here is the first: Asian Martial Arts: Constructive Thoughts & Practical Applications. It’s an impressive work, if I may say so: essays and lessons from thirty-seven scholars and practitioners and over three hundred illustrations.

The print edition is available here. The Kindle edition is here. Here is the Nook. And click here to get it for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

The Las Vegas Jazz Trio featuring Kai Brant

I have been working with a new band for the last couple of months. We’ve been rehearsing and putting together our promotional material, and now we’re ready to unveil this thing. The group is the Las Vegas Jazz Trio featuring Kai Brant. That’s the amazing Sonny Lamson on piano, the incomparable Martin Motnik on bass, and the astounding Kai Brant on vocals. Oh, and yours truly. I pound on things.

Our site is lvjazztrio.com, and I’ve posted some MP3s below. Have a listen. Have a download. We’re excited about this group.

First Las Vegas, then the world.

Or, you know, maybe Laughlin.
